Yoke Lore is yearning for 'Winona' in newest single

Yoke Lore continued his solo journey with his latest single release, Winona. Previously a member of the pop rock band Walk The Moon, his credits list includes hits like ‘Anna Sun’ and ‘Shut Up And Dance’. However it’s clear that Yoke Lore has excelled and mastered a unique voice in his solo career.

In a recent Instagram post, Yoke Lore called the new single “a longing for a way forward in which you don’t have to dynamite a highway to get through a heart.” That message is evident in the song, not only in the lyrics, but in the insane, explosive musicality. “Winona” is a song that demands to be felt deeply, to be screamed out loud, to be enjoyed and understood fully.

The tune begins with a twangy banjo, upbeat and refreshing. It quickly builds into a powerful ballad that feels oddly nostalgic. The intense drums and vocals are reminiscent of a coming of age movie soundtrack in all the right ways.

The pacing of the nearly five minute song is intentional and incredible, taking the listener on a rollercoaster of builds and releases. The chorus lilts, “Then why don't I give up if it just costs too much / All I got is an unbearable song about the memory of what was once us,” a painful ode to the ghost of a relationship, at the hand of self sabotage.

“Winona” further proves and solidifies Yoke Lore’s talent for musicality and lyricism. He is currently finishing up his headline tour, closing out on May 18th.
