Jake Minch Rounds Out Debut Album with Final Single “Leave”

If you are in need of letting a good cry out, when in doubt turn to Jake Minch. The 22-year-old singer-songwriter has become a favorite of many within the indie folk music scene. Having just released his debut album, George, this past July and completing his first headline tour all over North America, he is back with an extra treat right as he heads out on the road for a second leg, MORE GEORGE ON TOUR with stops including Austin, Dallas, Indianapolis, and more. “Leave”, his newest single, is considered a bonus track to George that was recorded but left off the album. He decided that it deserved to see the light of day, and we can’t be more thankful.

First having posted a snippet on TikTok, the song was immediately met with open arms. And for good reason. This song begins softly with what sounds like one lone guitar plucking away, “Leave / A little on the beach / A little back home / A little in crowds.” The song is based on a night he had opening for one of his favorite bands, where as the night ended he was overwhelmed with the feeling of “you would have loved this,” alluding to a previous partner who is now not in the picture. He stated on TikTok that “Leave” was his answer to the question many face after a breakup, “where does all that love go after the relationship is over?”

The production subtly is joined by more instrumentation, allowing Jake’s folk rooted artistry to show through. He is known for making it clear that there is regret about his actions and behaviors within his relationships, whether romantic or otherwise, and that honesty is admirable. He sings, “But I love you to bits / Even back when I was learning what love is / I’m sorry that u caught me / At a real bad time.” Through the whole song, just like the album, you hear a supplemental voice, and that is that of artist Alix Page. Within this song specifically, she adds such texture, warmth, and perspective to the song. The duo allows for more interpretation of this art than if it was singularly Jake. Their beautiful companionship always shines through in collaborative settings. “Leave” remains a delicate song through with the sound remaining calm and Alix finishes it out singing the same verse from the start, bringing the entire song full circle. A beautiful closure for Jake’s first ever album.

You can hear “Leave” and more songs off George at a show near you on Jake’s second leg of tour and listen anytime wherever you stream your music.
