A Confidence Boost From Sydney Ross Mitchell’s New Single “The Winner”
Everyone’s got that one ex who’s still obsessed with you, secret or not. Now that you have someone in your mind, you can have the proper experience of listening to Sydney Ross Mitchell’s new single “The Winner.” Sydney Ross Mitchell is a 26-year-old Los Angeles based artist, who you may recognize from opening for artists such as Finneas. With a plethora of singles and EP’s out in the world, including previous releases this year “World’s Greatest Lover” and “Say Something Kind To Me Again,” every single one of them is a hit.

“The Winner” is a subtle pop infused band-based song with the slightest of jazz influences focuses on the idea that you still win over whoever your ex is currently with if they still think about you constantly, as if it’s a competitive game. If you’re in their mind, they are bound to come back. The song starts with an acoustic guitar that’s immediately joined by a drum kick and more. Contextualized perfectly, it builds to a pre-chorus with high piano keys, flexing that subtle jazz a lot of her more recent songs display.
The chorus sings “Cause in the back of your mind / You’re wishing that her mouth was mine / So when you hold her tonight / I’m still the winner.” With upbeat drums, some piano shining through and an extremely catchy melody, this tune is a feel-good song when you just want to be a little messy, and we all have those days. A song for when you let your jealousy get the best of you, but it’s still a confidence boost if you need one. “I know you wanna kiss me / How could you not want to kiss me?” The song strips itself back to nearly just vocals towards the end just to build to one last chorus with the same catchiness as before.
Sydney’s music is something everyone should indulge in, from your earbuds to live performances.
