Knocked Loose Calls Out The “Hive Mind” in New Single Featuring Denzel Curry
It’s been almost two years since Knocked Loose released their last album You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To, leaving fans eager for what's next. In an unexpected announcement on Instagram this week, Knocked Loose posted a video of a skate park in their hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. The video featured a vinyl with Knocked Loose, Denzel Curry, and “Hive Mind” labeled on it. Announcing a new single dropping between the two on February 10. This song is a vicious collaboration of hardcore and hip-hop.
It starts out as an aggressive display of what Knocked Loose is, relentlessly heavy riffs and killer drums. Followed by a short hip-hop beat where the song takes a breath before singer Bryan Garris unleashes his anger and disgust. “Do you feel shame when you’re all alone? / No sense of self or thoughts of your own / Pretend it’s true, nothing less / Same old Leech tied to me.”
The song calls out groups that are considered a “Hive Mind”. Individuals who take on the thoughts and ideals of a group, sacrificing their free will and independent thought. Those adopting a group's identity like a costume.
Denzel Curry backs Garris in his fast hip-hop forward verse. “Watch as everybody follow the leader / Hollow semi heater / you sleepy hollow.” Curry gives Knocked Loose a new edge in this track. He’s fast and just as angry. The dynamic, social commentary that Curry adds to the song encapsulates what hip-hop and hardcore strive to do. His verses are followed by a short high-pitched guitar solo that transitions into the chaotic last minute of the song. Guitarist and vocalist, Issac Hale provides his haunting vocals. Counteracting the panicked shrieks of Garris, It’s dark and feral, adding to the anger of this song. The ending feels as the perfect blend of Knocked Loose and Denzel Curry. Coming together, its sludgy and dark overlaid with bold and groovy, making you eager to join a moshpit.
Adding to their resume of aggressive and chaotic songs, Knocked Loose has no intention of letting up. They are one of the heaviest bands in the mainstream and people are eager for more.
