Sit Back and Yearn with Spacey Jane’s New Single “Do You Really Love Her”
Spacey Jane released a new single on Friday, “Do You Really Love Her.”
Spacey Jane is back and better than ever with their new single “Do You Really Love Her,” released on Friday — a dreamy yearn-fest drenched in soft ’80s synth. The Australian four-piece is fresh off a banner year, dropping their third studio album, If That Makes Sense, in May and rounding out their successful tours in Australia, New Zealand, North America, and Europe with festival appearances at Beyond the Valley and Great Escape at the end of 2025.
Their latest track opens like something out of a dream, mirrored by the surreal visuals in the accompanying music video: a movie theater usher in a cassock and oversized hat, an absurdly large pianist, and a woman done up in a Marie Antoinette-esque costume (played by drummer Kieran Lama, lead guitarist Ashton Le Cornu, and bassist and background vocalist Peppa Lane, respectively).
These images, situated alongside the song’s title and opening line “Do you really love her,” underscore its message about the treacherous lure of fantasy in the wake of heartbreak. When riding infatuation’s “sugar highs and lows,” how do we know where love ends and make-believe begins? Perhaps there is a parallel to be drawn here between the escapism found at movie theaters like the one featured in this video and the slippery slope of nostalgia for past loves.

More broadly, the track’s lyrics speak to the emotional whiplash of learning to forget someone you loved while seeing reminders of them everywhere. Lead singer Caleb Harper’s voice drips with regret and longing, lamenting missed calls, empty movie theater seats, and all the other haunting remnants of an ex. As is their calling card, Spacey Jane perfectly captures the knotty emotions brought to the surface in the cruel aftershock of a relationship ending.
Made for midnight drives winding through the mess of your emotions, this is a tune you’ll struggle to get out of your head and will be sure to have you up and swaying to its ethereal, heavily reverbed melody.
And don’t worry, rock fans, the distorted guitar solo serving as the song’s bridge is grounded in Spacey’s garage-rock roots and provides a refreshing moment of sonic contrast to the rest of the dream-pop track.
In a statement posted by Triple J, the indie rock band explained how this new track came to life: “‘Do You Really Love Her’ was born out of the If That Makes Sense writing sessions. For some reason the song didn’t feel like the right fit for the album, but we always wanted it to see the light of day.” And certainly, you can hear echoes of their latest record throughout “Do You Really Love Her,” with its pop-infused production and lyrics that hit like a gut punch.
Spacey Jane will be back in North America this summer, opening for Rainbow Kitten Surprise on their bones tour and bringing their infectious energy to the festival stages at Bonnaroo, Governors Ball, and Osheaga.
