His Dream of Lions' Seth Coggeshall

Interview by Smo Ostrowski

Virginia natives His Dream of Lions are set to release their fourth EP, Pseudo Star, next month. "Love Me Like I'm Sick", their recently released single from the EP, can be streamed here, and you can pre-order Pseudo Star here. Off the Record's interviewer Smo Ostrowski was able to pick singer Seth Coggeshall's brain about the new EP and the band's 2018 plans.

OTR: To start off, how did His Dream of Lions come to be? How did you all meet each other and decide to form a band?

SC: We came together in the Spring of 2012 when our guitar player Nick asked me to come over and try out for his band. Following that we added Colby and Justin to the line up. We all love playing music and had been in bands in the local northern Virginia music scene for sometime, so the line up clicked in a really natural and cool way.

OTR: Your new EP Pseudo Star is set to release this February; can you each describe the album in 3 words?

SC: Epic, introspective, and humorous

OTR: What makes Pseudo Star different from your self-titled EP, released back in 2015?

SC: I think we’re playing around with styles and genres of music that we never have before. There’s a lot more going on with this record instrumentally, but simultaneously the lyrics and writing has become way more direct.

OTR: What do you want fans/listeners to know about this EP?

SC: It’s the best record we’ve made so far, and even if you’re new to the band we think you’ll love it. It’s a massive sounding record that at the end of the day still sounds human.

OTR: What is your favorite song off the new EP and why?

SC: Magic. That song works on so many levels. It was originally written as sort of a joke, but when we started to emulate a lot of our favorite Disney songs, specifically the Tarzan soundtrack, the track came to life in a really interesting way. Its hard to describe. Imagine if My Chemical Romance wrote a Disney song.

OTR: Besides the new EP, what else do you guys have going on in 2018? Tour? Festivals?

SC: Yes we have a tour scheduled around the EP release in Feb, and then after that we should be touring all throughout the Spring and Summer.

OTR: You guys just released your new video for Love Me Like I’m Sick back in December, what was the best part about filming the music video? Did any crazy or funny things happen on set?

SC: It was a pretty exhausting shoot. We filmed the whole thing in 2 and a half days, so by the end of it we were pretty spent. It’s a challenge to try and act excited in front of the camera when you’re that tired haha. The craziest thing that happened was a wasp almost flew in my face during the headshots. That would have sucked.

OTR: Where can fans keep up with you guys? Spotify/Apple Music? Social medias?

SC: We’re all over all social media outlets!
