little image on finding their sound and growing into their music
Indie-rock band little image got their start in 2017 with their album “Musings”. With the exception of their 2020 single, “WORTH IT”, and 2021 single “EGO” the band has taken a hiatus from releasing new music, until now. Jackson Simmons, Brandon Walters, and Troy Bruner are back with a new album and a fresh sound. The band enjoys creating music with an edge, inviting listeners to take in the world around them and look at the bigger picture. The Dallas native group has begun releasing singles, one by one, that will make up their new album “SELF TITLED” which releases on May 12th, 2023. little image is currently supporting Colony House on their Cannonballers tour.
OTRP’S Cat Cardenas got the chance to ask them questions at a press conference.
Cardenas: You’re going on tour with Colony House soon, do you have any pre-show rituals?
Simmons: We always like to just huddle up and kind of have the room to ourselves for a second to just breathe and kind of get in the zone. Yeah we’ll just kinda huddle up, encourage each other, and just have a little moment together.
Walters: They’re usually pretty quiet and chill.
Bruner: Yeah our preshow’s really not hype, like, even though right when the set starts it’s the most hype moment, of like things get intense, but before we go on we like to like, Brandon does a lot of meditation stuff and breathing exercises, and we’d rather just go on peaceful and give it everything we’ve got, let the anxiety go away, and then you just rip it. If anyone wants to join our yoga session let us know.
Cardenas: I could definitely be down for yoga. You mentioned that “SELF TITLED” is three years in the making, what was that writing process like, especially dealing with the pandemic?
Simmons: It was interesting for sure, I think it kinda gave us some time to really focus in on what we wanted to make and focus in on just musically, where we wanted to go. Obviously it was like a really tough time for so many people, it was tough for us too, but we just tried to make the most of it. It was tough because we all lived in different cities, so we couldn’t see each other, couldn't really fly to see each other except for like a couple times so being so far away and trying to do things just over Zoom or over text, just texting ideas back and forth, it was interesting for sure.
Cardenas: “SELF TITLED” will be your first album release since your 2017 album “Musings”, what was the biggest difference in the creative processes between the two?
Bruner: We were in high school when we did that first record so it was kinda like kids getting in the garage and like, jamming. That was the energy, and you hear that, it’s really pure. Jackson had a bunch of ideas, we really didn’t know each other, and we got together and started playing our instruments, that was really pure. It’s developed into now we all play every instrument and we all produce, so there’s this width to it all now where we’re able to create the world we want to dream of, instead of being like ‘alright let’s go for it’.
Every little detail is really important, so it’s been really cool to produce it ourselves and then team up with people who can make that world come alive with us. We just grew up a lot and fell in love with all types of music, to where we were able to diversify, and we all trust each other to play any instrument now, it’s all kinda like a team, and you can hear the three of us spread out throughout each track, it’s pretty exciting.
End of interview.
