Chappell Roan Breaks up with Management and Rejects Billboard
Chappell Roan has been known to gab about a breakup, from ‘My Kink Is Karma,’ to ‘Coffee’ to the freshly-Grammy-nominated ‘Good Luck, Babe!’. The singer-songwriter is no stranger to loudly lamenting the end of a relationship.
But, when Billboard broke the news of her split with State Of the Art management, Roan was less than pleased, commenting, “Yall suck for this.” On their Instagram announcement.
Roan’s exact frustrations with Billboard’s post were unclear. Some speculate that she was uncomfortable with them publicizing the separation, while others think she’s upset that they point out her failure to thank the company amidst her six Grammy nominations — insinuating that she’s not grateful for their hand in her recent success.
This isn’t the first time that Roan has expressed her frustration at the lack of respect and privacy afforded to artists’ like her. She previously took to TikTok to ask fans to refrain from approaching her in public, and told a rude photographer at the MTV Video Music Awards to “Shut the fuck up.”
Although she’s beefing with Billboard, it appears that Roan remains on good terms with State of the Art — who she signed with in 2018, under manager Nick Bobetsky — since the singer continues to follow their socials.
Based on her response, it seems likely that ballad of this breakup probably won’t appear alongside ‘The Giver,’ — a new song she debuted on Saturday Night Live earlier this month — on Roan’s upcoming record.
