“Third time’s the charm”; Clairo announces new album and drops lead single

Beloved indie artist Claire Cottrill, better known as Clairo, announced her third studio album, Charm, and released the lead single, ‘Sexy to Someone,’ on Thursday after teasing fans on Instagram for over a month.

Charm is set to be released July 12 and feature 11 tracks, as revealed in an Instagram post by Cottrill. ‘Sexy to Someone’ introduces her new era with a bluesy piano and bass line coupled with Cottrill’s signature use of woodwinds and her ever-soothing voice.

The single follows Cottrill’s critically acclaimed 2021 album, Sling, a softer record with a more folksy feel than her debut album, Immunity. Cottrill also released a live EP recorded at the iconic Electric Lady Studios in New York City with renditions of songs from her two albums in 2023.

Cottrill began teasing new music on her Instagram in April, with a picture of her in the studio holding her clarinet with the caption “maybe next month.” After continuously alluding to an announcement, Cottrill posted “my single drops tomorrow” on her Instagram story Wednesday. Charm was announced as ‘Sexy to Someone’ was released at 12 p.m. EST Thursday.
