5 Seconds of Summer Release New Album, ‘Everyone’s A Star!"‘
Boyband lovers everywhere rejoiced as Australian pop band 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS) released their sixth studio album, Everyone’s A Star! on Nov. 14.
The new album was followed by three single releases, “Not OK,” “Boyband,” and “Telephone Busy,” as well as a somewhat cryptic release campaign following the slogan, “Your favorite boyband.” This statement initially teased the new album with various posters plastered around New York City, with a link for fans to pre-save “Not OK,” which was released on Sept. 24. On that same day, 5SOS announced the release date for Everyone’s A Star!
This album’s release, also being the first that the band released under Republic Records, featured multiple free pop-up events for fans in Sydney, New York City, Los Angeles, and London as teasers.
This album and era, as designated by the band themselves, is 5SOS’s “most ambitious era yet.” Heavily inspired by Y2K and punk aesthetics, this album sets itself apart from the rest of the band’s discography blending their older, nostalgic pop-punk feel with a more mature and ironic approach. Rolling Stone Australia writer Isabel Cant calls Everyone’s A Star! the band’s “most compelling work yet.”
