Best of Love, A Valentine's Day Mix

This mix of songs explores the many feelings that love has to offer, providing something for everyone, whether you celebrate or not. Happy Loving!

Iridescent- HUMBLE THE GREAT

Coming off of his most recent album Bloodshot “Iridescent” represents a longing love for that person you feel like you would do anything for. Humble The Great’s artistry is consistently raw, and unfiltered, nowhere does that stop in this song, with lyrics like, “I just really need you” and “I was literally on my knees.” It is an honest account of sacrifice and challenge that comes with love, but with a tune that is hypnotic you find yourself getting lost in the music- a feeling not too different from intimacy.

Lemon Tea- Akemi Fox

Picture you and yours, laying in a field with the sun pouring onto you, then, look no further than Lemon Tea by Akemi Fox to give you that same imagery. A smooth and soft R&B single by the UK musician is a love story of its own. And while February brings the chill, Fox warms listeners up when she sings, “You’re my lemon tea/ you’re all I need” giving you the feeling that everything is going to be ok.

Be Mine- Kish

A holiday for love, means also, the opportunity to find it. Be Mine is exactly as the title states, a confession that is one part honest, and one part hopeful. The songs' slow R&B mixed with bits of alternative hip-hop, exemplify a trip through the emotions that come with expressing one's feelings. “If you know it's real/tell me that you’ll be mine” holds back so little, and is the bravery we can all appreciate. Allow yourself to fall in love all over, for the first time, or just for the night with this song as your mantra.

I hope you- Amber Lucid

With this unique fusion of Spanish and English similar to the likes of Nina Cobham, Amber Lucid delivers a gentle beat, with the words we all want to hear. Another song for the romantics, and those looking for a prospective partner, “I hope you” is relatable and Amber Lucid offers our thoughts when it's hard to translate them into words, “My vision becomes more clearer the more you speak to me” is in its simplest form, beautiful artistry.

The Way That You Move- Kwaku Asante

For those about to dance, let Kwaku Asante be your melody. In this upbeat love song Asante shares the certainty and woven loyalty that comes with the greatest feelings of love. “You are a part of me” is poetically layered atop a track that creates ambiance and transports you onto a 60s dance floor with its electric pop vibrations. “The Way That You Move” shows how fun loving can be.

Reason For Dreaming- The Happy Fits

“There’s nothing else than what is now” is a ballad for the long-term lovers. From their 2018 album, Concentrate, that was genre-bending and experimentative, The Happy Fits sing to the all consuming wonders of the dopamine from devotion. The soft guitar provides the simplicity that is accompanied by lyrics which speak volumes, and offers the average listener a glimpse into an intimacy that surpasses amaetur attraction. A pure love song through and through.

Is this real life?- Casper Sage

If rose tinted glasses were a song, Casper Sage would take the cake. Is this real life? Can love feel this tender? Can one describe this song as baby pink? All good questions that arise as the song progresses. Sage encapsulates the honeymoon stage with this soft yet upbeat tune, and makes even the pessimists hopeful for a love like this. For maximum adoration, play this for your lover in the car and let Sage serenade them with the line, “Yeah my baby sittin pretty by my side.”

Fall For You- Arima Ederra

An ode to the old fashioned, this song is not only fueled with passion, but also an echo of patience that lingers on throughout the track. Its production is nostalgic of an old hollywood-esque scene, with beautiful chords, and melodies that remain constant throughout. Fall For You offers something outside of just the lyrics- an understanding of emotion through the instrumentals and sound development, but with Ederra singing “Tomorrow isn’t here today/ reminded to appreciate/this moment/with all my loved ones” it is a piece of music that checks all the boxes.

Gimme Love- The Vista Kicks

It’s not a want its a need, at least that’s what the Vista Kicks are pleading. With their 70s style, and 60s rock-and-roll, the Vista Kicks embody a time where music was at its peak. The sudden build-ups throughout the piece make their cries of “Love, give me love, give me something to believe in” full of power, and still so much vulnerability. Its a promise of a good time with this song, and perfect for dancing around with the people who you’d belt it too.

Home With You- Marie Dahlstrom

For the final song, Home With You represents the final sequence of a love story- the promise of “forever”. It may not be the honeymoon anymore (“”Hope that I can ease the pain”), but that makes it all the more special. With a mix of R&B and elements of Electro-Funk, Dahlstrom sings of a love that has become solidified-”Happy to be home with you…And I love spending time with you.” A song for the Valentines that have celebrated with that special person every year since. To them Dahlstrom says, love is in the everyday.

Whether you’re dinner dating, or spending the night in as a party of 1, love songs are for everyone, its the human condition. This mix is for the celebration of love, to all whom it may concern.
