The Maine & Grayscale | 5/21/2019

Last night, the Maine returned to Indianapolis for the band’s first headlining show in the city in seven years, bringing along pop punk act Grayscale. The near-sold-out venue was flowing with energy before the first act even began.

Grayscale’s music was new to me, but did not appear to be new to the Indianapolis crowd. I have heard great things from many friends and people that I follow, but had never seen them live or listened to their music. The band was electric. The audience immediately connected with the music from the first song, either fans already or quickly converted. It was clear that the audience was drawn to their music and stage presence; I was converted myself.

I cannot say that this is the first time that I have seen the Maine. I have seen the Maine countless times before, including on both coasts within the last year. They are one of my favorite bands and have been for years. Am I biased in saying that this was the best show that I have seen in awhile? Possibly. Will I say it anyway? Absolutely. The band has this incredibly unique stage presence that I have not yet seen in any other artist. Silly, yet genuine, and talented when it comes to the actual performance. From the first song, “Numb Without You”, to the last, “Another Night on Mars”, there were no dull moments. My personal highlight of the show was their song “Slip the Noose”. The energy of the room was incredible, something that one definitely needs to experience for themselves.
