Rock band Paramore performs at Austin City Limits for the first time.

The 2022 Austin City Limits Music Festival saw the long-awaited return of alternative rock band Paramore to the stage. After what felt like a million year hiatus, the group made their ACL Fest debut, delivering a high-energy performance that brought the crowd to life.

The festival itself garners nearly half a million fans to Austin every year and it seemed like this midday set drew in the entire audience. I mean, how could you not attend the once in a lifetime experience that is the return of Paramore.

The band’s set kicked off with the infectious opening notes of their 2017 hit "Hard Times" from their fifth studio album "After Laughter." Frontwoman Hayley Williams commanded the stage, her signature orange hair complementing her bold ensemble of orange cargo pants, a green long-sleeve top, and an orange studded belt.

The band's chemistry was palpable as they seamlessly transitioned between fan favorites, including the pop-punk anthem "Misery Business" - a song that had been retired in 2018 amid the #MeToo movement, but made a triumphant comeback for this special festival appearance. Its reemergence at ACL Fest was a testament to the band's commitment to evolving and addressing societal issues through their art, while still honoring their iconic catalog.

The band's musicianship was equally impressive, as they seamlessly navigated their extensive discography, blending their signature pop-punk sound with the more introspective and synth-driven elements of their recent albums. Guitarist Taylor York and drummer Zac Farro provided a solid foundation, allowing Williams to shine as the charismatic focal point of the performance.

The performance was elevated by a surprise guest appearance from rising Tik Tok star PinkPantheress, who joined Paramore on stage to lend her vocals to "Misery Business." The collaboration was a highlight of the set, with PinkPantheress expressing her gratitude to Hayley Williams, saying, "I'm doing music because of you."

Hayley Williams also led the audience in a rousing rendition of "Happy Birthday" directed at Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist, Flea, another headliner at the festival. The moment showcased Paramore's ability to connect with the crowd and create a sense of community.

Alongside Paramore, the two-weekend ACL Fest lineup featured a diverse array of talent, including rising stars like YUNGBLUD, Lil Nas X, and SZA. The festival marked the continuation of Paramore's North American tour, which will culminate in the release of their highly anticipated sixth studio album, "This Is Why," in January 2023.

As the sun set on Zilker Park, Paramore's triumphant return to the stage left the audience energized and eager for the band's next chapter. The performance solidified Paramore's status as one of the most captivating and influential acts in the alternate rock scene.
