The Aces' starstudded show at House of Blues Orlando felt like a “daydream”

orlando, florida - october 3, 2023

With only a few minutes before the start of the show, a bright light shines on the white curtain backdrop reflecting a rainbow heart with ACES written down the middle. The crowd cheers in anticipation and shouts along to “Misery Business” and “Since U Been Gone” as they play loudly overhead.

The bright white lights and black & white checkboard floor matched the polished images of each member as they strutted out onto the stage in their suit and ties. Cristal Ramirez (vocals/guitar), Alisa Ramirez (drums), McKenna Petty (bass), and Katie Henderson (guitarist) looked effortlessly cool from beginning to end of their hour-and-a-half-long set at House of Blues. They were right at home up on the stage.

In their recent release of I’ve Loved You For So Long, The Aces opened up about their struggles with leaving their Mormon religion and background, the shame that followed, and acknowledging their queerness. They dedicated a majority of their set to their third studio album, with an exuberant energy and confidence throughout their performance which were a testament to how far they’ve come in overcoming those struggles.

Fans proved their love and support, singing along to songs and even dressing up in dress shirts and ties to match the band. The energy in the venue was an open and safe environment for people to sing along, dance with one another, and enjoy the experience of witnessing one of their favorite bands live.

Throughout the night, the girls moved in tune with one another. The ebbs and flows of their movement as they performed were mesmerizing when they would each spread out across the stage to do their own thing and come together in the center stage in front of the drums to jam out during a riff. It was clear how much fun they were having, and the crowd was right there along with them.
