Colony House @ The Ryman
Nashville, February 11, 2023
Following the release of their fourth album, The Cannonballers, the indie rock band Colony House set out on their lengthy Cannonballers tour. Their first stop was a sold out show at the historic Ryman in Nashville, Tennessee on February 11th.
Judah and the Lion started off the night with a 30 minute set. Although it was more of a calming set, with an amazing string quartet to assist them, it allowed the crowd to get comfortable with each other while they anticipated Colony Houses’ set. The band had a different take on their set than I have seen in some time.Cracking jokes and telling stories in between songs to help lighten the mood within the crowd. At one point several fans embraced one another and swayed to the music. Being sure to thank the crowd time and time again throughout the set, they were able to feel the band's gratitude.
The Franklin natives hit the stage with electric energy, leaving the crowd in awe after every song. Debuting ten songs off their newest album to include “Trying to survive”, “Would ya Could ya” and many more, along with a variety of songs from their previous albums. The lengthy setlist allowed for a multitude of different interactions with the fans and the band never missed an opportunity to thank the crowd for their ongoing support.
The energy among the crowd created a sense of belonging and acceptance, which allowed for a lot of self expression. Many fans took this opportunity to dance and sing along with every song, it became very infectious. The band was picking up on the crowd's energy, encouraged it and fed off of it while on stage.
This was one of the loudest crowds I have ever encountered, the space was very welcoming and Colony House performed with such high energy. If you have the opportunity to catch one of their tour dates, I can't stress this enough, do not miss that opportunity. In the meantime be sure to check out their newest album, which will likely end up in your playlists.
