Larkin Poe @ The Opera House

The blues are alive and thriving as Larkin Poe rocks The Opera House in Toronto on March 15. Sisters Rebecca and Megan Lovell command the stage with an air of confidence and ease to provide some of the most raw blues rock out there. At the height of their Blood Harmony Tour, the sisters show no signs of slowing down as they rock a hard hitting set full of true Americana rock. Heavy electric guitar riffs and slide guitar are made to look effortless by the sisters as they blend their vocals so you can undeniably feel the soul that went into the heart of their songs.

“People who still believe in rock music! Hallelujah!” Rebecca Lovell preaches to the crowd as she takes the lead vocals, accompanied by Megan at the front of the stage.

They fulfill their promise of a night of heavy rock as they blast through a hard hitting setlist mixed with songs both off of their new album and old hits to satisfy every fan. Songs like Preachin’ Blues and Strike Gold energize the atmosphere as the band feeds off of the crowd's energy and ignites the venue.

Ruling the stage like a seasoned pro, Rebecca kept the energy light throughout the show, taking the time to crack jokes and tell stories in between songs. Going as far as to stop mid show so the whole band could take a shot of Southern Comfort, before playing the song Southern Comfort, the band keeps the audience laughing and engaged alongside them.

However, this did not stop them from taking the time to talk about issues important to them throughout the set, stopping before She’s a Self Made Man to talk about what it's like to be a woman in the music industry and the importance of women fronted bands.

Later in the set, they talk about reaching out and talking about mental health, sharing their own familial stories of struggles with mental illness before playing Mad as a Hatter, a song they dedicated to their grandfather.

Larkin Poe sounds electric as they fly through a dynamic set including hits, Kick the Blues, Blue Ridge Mountains, Bleach Blonde Bottle Blues, and Bad Spell. Over the course of the show both Rebecca and Megan take turns showing off their musicality as they flaunt seemingly effortless skill and control throughout multiple guitar solos. They finish off the set with Bolt Cutters & The Family Name, riling up the audience to accompany them by singing the back up vocals as the sisters belt out the lead. Coming back for an encore with one final song, Larkin Poe leaves the audience buzzing with electric energy as they finish the show with Deep Stays Down off of the Blood Harmony album.

If you are lucky enough to catch them as they continue the Blood Harmony Tour, check out Larkin Poe as they maintain an enthralling stage presence and offer some of the greatest true Americana rock out there.
