The unassuming Meadow Street in Brooklyn is home to a cluster of significant music venues in New York’s scene today, including the Brooklyn Monarch, a brick-walled buidling with a bar and spacious outdoor patio. Tigers Jaw played a sold-out show, the first out of two New York Dates, on this intimate stage last Wednesday, October 16th. Opening the night with Snoozer from Philadelphia and Long Island New York’s very own, Oso Oso, they made their audience forget that it was a weeknight and their performance could be heard down the street.

Despite their name, Snoozer is energetic and animated, making their presence on stage known. Beginning their set with some banter about the upcoming world series, they quickly melted into their music. Oso Oso proceeded, playing a warm and exciting set. The crowd got comfortable during their set, crowd surfers appearing left and right to each side of the stage.

Tigers Jaw is composed of keyboardist and vocalist Brianna Collins, guitarist and vocalist Ben Walsh, bassist Colin Gorman, and drummer, Teddy Roberts. The quartet enters the stage to a large, bright, glowing backdrop of their band name and the lights fade on. The band, having formed in 2005, has 7 full albums and a handful of splits and EPs. Harboring a full and emotionally powerful discography, they played a mix of their classics and songs from their more recent albums alike.

Laughing about an encounter with Twin Peaks' actor Kyle MacLachlan, who famously portrayed Agent Dale Cooper, earlier in the day while sporting a Twin Peaks shirt, they engaged with the crowd genuinely, encouraging their excitement and communicating with their fans. Tigers Jaw is a treat to see live and they will absolutely ensnare you in their music. They are in tune with each other and their audience, consistently putting on unforgettable performances.
