Dayglow lights up the stage at Old National Centre

indianapolis, indiana - october 19th, 2024

Making his way back to Old National Centre, indie pop sensation Dayglow shined with unparalleled exuberance and vivaciousness that lit up the entirety of The Egyptian Room. Dayglow’s stop in Indianapolis marks near the halfway point of DAYGLOW THE TOUR, an energetic celebration of the artist’s new self-titled record, Dayglow. Sloan Struble, the face behind the Dayglow project, composed a carefully curated collection of songs from each of his four albums for this ongoing tour. While sprinkling some fan favorites from ‘Harmony House’ and ‘People in Motion,’ the main bulk of the setlist showcased the latest tracks from his fourth studio album and nostalgic revisitations from his debut record, ‘Fuzzybrain.’ No matter which era of his career the music came from, Dayglow provided a consistent passion for his art shared with devoted fans since the release of his first single back in 2019.

DAYGLOW THE TOUR in Indianapolis opened with a dramatic and dazzling rendition of “Junior Varsity,” exhibiting intense introspection about the evolution of life. The song investigates the complexities of emotions one feels as they grow older and feel youth slipping away from their fingers. In the terms of his career, Dayglow has gone from releasing an album entirely in his bedroom to touring across North America with his fourth album; the lyrical sentiment of “We’re in the real world now / Not junior varsity” rings true for those who have been with Dayglow through all of his years of artistic exploration and for Dayglow himself, who continues to push himself to new musical heights. While the original track harbors more of a somber nature, Dayglow feels that change and embraces the authentic celebration of growth in his performance of “Junior Varsity,” using it as a pivotal transition into the upbeat charisma of his next few songs.

Struble went on to rock the house with two tracks from the ‘Dayglow’ record, “Broken Bone” and “Silver Lining.” Dayglow’s live performance imbues a bubbly zeal into the hearth of his music, breathing a new air of life into his songs once put on stage. The sheer amount of joy embodied by Dayglow and his band radiated from the stage into the entire venue. There was not a moment where Dayglow was not completely immersed in the music while simultaneously connecting with the audience. His vocal performance was incredible, hitting crazy notes and preserving his signature playful technique and tone while simultaneously exuding a colorful stage presence. As he performed “Broken Bone” and “Silver Lining,” he was constantly jumping around and beaming with the biggest smile on his face. His stage presence has a comforting and warming aura, easing the crowd and invoking an unapologetic understanding that the show was a safe space for people to dance and sing all of their worries away.

The performance of his classic track “Hot Rod” marked a significant highlight of the show, demonstrating the natural synergy established between Dayglow, his band, and the crowd at the Old National Centre. The on-stage chemistry between Dayglow and the band was palpable, bringing a vibrant flare to the track that only enhanced the incredible musicality. During the “Hot Rod” bridge, Dayglow and his guitarist stood back-to-back as they played the iconic guitar riff that leads up to the final burst of energy in the last section of the chorus. The excitement and spunk on stage left audiences filled with the same elation the musicians felt up on stage, filling the room with pure excitement for the commendable nostalgic artistry.

It would be near impossible to not have a blast at a Dayglow performance. Through DAYGLOW THE TOUR, Sloan Struble lays down vulnerability, passion, and euphoria all down on stage to celebrate with listeners over the pure, genuine love for music. In “Then It All Goes Away,” Dayglow sings about how “You tell me everything and tell me it’s fine, but / There’s ‘something tells me that there’s something going on here.’” Just as in the song, all of the fears and pains are swept away from audiences to share an incredibly special, intimate, and fun-loving concert together. That’s what Dayglow is about, and that’s what he perfectly captures in the performance of his latest record.

DAYGLOW THE TOUR is not one you’re going to want to miss out on. With a handful of North American dates left, you can check out the rest of the dates for “Dayglow the Tour” here.
