MisterWives Made Thalia Hall Their Own House on October 28

october 28, 2024 - chicago, illinois

The indie pop band MisterWives has returned to Chicago one last time for their “Just For One Night” tour before they go on a hiatus. "Don’t worry," lead-singer Mandy Lee assured the packed crowd with a smile, "We’re not going anywhere!"

Fans excitedly talked amongst themselves while waiting for the band to come on stage, most of them talking about their experiences meeting the band members before the show with decorated tote bags, while others talked about which songs were the most meaningful to them.

With five albums and more than a decade of music behind them, there was plenty of speculation over which songs would make the setlist and which, sadly, would have to be left out. It was clear that the band had crafted the setlist to please both long-time fans and newer listeners alike. The applause and cheers were nearly non-stop, leaving little time for Lee to chat between songs.

However, Lee still found moments to connect with the crowd, giving a heartfelt shoutout to the Chicago fans as one of the best crowds of the tour so far. Despite battling painful shin splints, she performed with boundless energy, even encouraging everyone to march to the polls with Election Day on the horizon on November 5.

The setlist leaned heavily into songs from their latest album, Nosebleeds, but true to their roots, MisterWives also threw in fan favorites from Our Own House, bringing a wave of nostalgia to the crowd who listened to them from the beginning. No one seemed to treat it like a typical Monday night. Instead, it felt more like a Friday celebration, from the front row barricades up to the nosebleed section.

Even up in the nosebleeds had its special moments; a family of four danced with abandon, the children beaming with joy as they enjoyed their first MisterWives concert. Across the room, a VIP fan swayed to the music, fully embracing the night from start to finish, even dancing to the opening tunes played to hype up the crowd.

The entire evening felt like a celebration of MisterWives’ career, where everyone shared the joy of being together, basking in the music and connection. Feeding off of that energy, the band made sure to dance around and soak in the feeling of one of their final live performances before their break. Here’s to hoping the hiatus won’t be long—because bands like MisterWives are rare and the world is a better place with them in it.
