Sweat Tour: Charli XCX and Troye Sivan Glisten in Chicago
As Something To Give Each Other and Brat summer has come to a close, a new door has thrusted open enticing fans to leave everything on the dance floor for two hours. That's right Sweat Tour autumn is now in full swing. If you are planning to attend this tour be sure to hydrate and prepare responsibly before making your way there because once the show starts you will have the opportunity to get the cardio workout of your life if you decide to fully indulge yourself and let go of all inhibitions.
There is always something so special about walking into a venue and instantly being surrounded by a sea of individuals who all share at least one common interest, this feeling is amplified throughout the United Center.
Upon entering the arena you can feel the excitement in the air. Fans have been waiting all summer to be in this room, the arena is practically buzzing. After grabbing the necessary tour t-shirt and sustenance, a friend and I head to our section. Not yet knowing completely what to expect from the night ahead of us. As we reach our seats and sit down, completely enamored by the view, I take a moment to close my eyes and just listen to the space around me. The room is humming, groups of people that have never met before are meeting for the first time, exchanging favors and taking pictures. Troye Sivan will take the stage in approximately thirty minutes, but a handful of people are still filing into their sections quickly.
There is a green glow about the arena just before the lights go out as many fans come adorned in glow sticks, light up glasses, and various Brat themed shirts and bodysuits. Then right on que, the arena lights turn off and there are instant screams filling the entire building. Spot lights shine down on the mainstage as Sivan’s infamous dancers file out and the show we have all been anxiously anticipating begins. Starting on a high, Troye Sivan enters the stage to his hit single Got Me Started. The last line of the song rang out in the arena so truthfully encapsulating the feeling of what it is like to be in that room. “We’ve got something to give each other” Sivan sang, and it was so very fitting. Everyone in the room came here one way or another all hoping to share the same experience of innate euphoria, or as friends put it, to reach nirvana. He continued on with Whats the Time Where You Are? And My My My!, clearly setting the tone for what the night going forward had to offer and more.
After Sivan sang his first three songs, he swiftly exited the stage and just as he vanished the notorious Brat curtain rained down covering the center stage at the end of the catwalk. Phone screens lit up all across the room as the curtain was released and suddenly Charli XCX appeared before our eyes, commanding the arena like a seasoned professional. There is something to be admired about her ability to light up a crowd with her infectious personality and stage presence all on her own. Charli XCX started off with album opener 360 as strobe lights flashed around her, ingraining her silhouette into the audience's field of vision.
As the pair took turns trading off the limelight of the stage, fans danced to the nines and sweated everything out, making sure the tour lived up to its name. Charli XCX and Troye Sivan ended the show with their remix collaboration of Talk Talk off Brat, said their goodbyes and hyped each other up as they took in Chicago’s overwhelming gratitude one last time. The stars put on the show of a lifetime packed full of hit song after hit song, immense joy, and most importantly an overflowing community. Every stranger in that room became a like minded friend for two magnificent hours. And just like that Sweat Tour had ended.
