Liptoss rocks out and leaves the audience craving more at Fallen Log

november 1, 2024 - chicago, illinois

Set against a backdrop of creepy but festive Halloween decorations and fiery red and pink lighting, Liptoss took the stage on November 1 at the quaint and charming Fallen Log; a hidden gem in the back of vegan pizza restaurant Kitchen 17. Liptoss kicked the show off in high gear with an upbeat and edgy performance of “Lethal.” Lead singers Anna Henson and Ashlyn Sisco balanced their vocals against a punchy combination of drums, electric guitar, and bass reminiscent of early 2000s punk-rock. Towards the end of the opener, Henson carried the chorus while Sisco had space to improvise and add her unique flare of bright and passionate vocal riffs.

Their set continued with “Checkmate,” a powerful rock anthem with a subtle country twang that kept their performance fresh and magnetic. Henson’s and Sisco’s chemistry as lead vocalists was palpable as they sang back and forth, matching each other’s energy at every turn and upping the ante like a truly brilliant game of chess. Playing off the warm and familiar country sounds, their set continued with “It Takes Two,” a cheeky and more relaxed track involving passionate and exciting audience participation. Elliot Colegrove on the drums and Matt Swetnam on bass brought earthy tones as guitarists Jeremy Donofrio and Luke Akleonard riffed back and forth, matching the same energy as Henson and Sisco.

As the lights dimmed slightly, the audience eagerly awaited the next track. Liptoss performed a passionate rendition of their song “Deal,” bringing back a more grungy and sultry mood. Lead vocalists Henson and Sisco were more eager and energetic than ever as they danced and rocked out on stage, encouraging the audience to do the same. As the song finished with a bang, Sisco teased their next track as a cover everyone should know. Within seconds of the track starting, the audience was already singing and dancing to Paramore’s iconic rock anthem, “Still Into You.” Henson and Sisco were both energetic as the instrumentalists kept the song lively and carried the steady rhythm we know so well. This energy carried into “Sides,” a newer track from Liptoss that features their unique rock and grunge sound and is lyrically complex like their other tracks.

Liptoss’ closer brought their set to an epic finish as they performed “Honest With Me,” another track that inspired the audience to dance and everyone in the band to sing and play to the fullest. Everyone in the band brought double the energy as the crowd cheered and left the venue humming some of the songs they played. Liptoss did not miss a beat during the set and effortlessly played with the audience’s energy, giving everyone just enough time to recover from the last song before jumping into the next.
