april 19, 2025 - seattle, washington
Seattle got loud and loose as Enjoy and Puzzle brought their co-headlining CRUSADE ACROSS THE STATES tour to The Crocodile in Seattle, Washington. The Shears twins, Wyatt and Fletcher, are no strangers to turning a live show into a full-blown experience. Known for their work together in The Garden, the pair has carved out solo careers that dive even deeper into their identities. With Enjoy leaning hard into punk and post-rock sounds and Puzzle offering up dreamy electronic textures, their respective sets did not just complement each other, they magnified one another.
With lines stretching down the block before doors opened, the energy was already building outside The Crocodile. By the time Enjoy took the stage, the energy in the venue was electric. Wyatt Shears kicked things off with his solo project Enjoy, launching straight into “Mist” from his album ‘Deep Cuts (2011-2014)’ released in 2012. It was loud, it was fast, and it was everything we have come to expect from Wyatt’s punk roots with The Garden, with a bit more raw experimentation thrown in. His presence was magnetic, and he wasn’t just playing the crowd; he was feeding off of them.
As the set neared its close, Wyatt threw a welcome surprise into the mix: two extra tracks, “Promise Land” and “Dear John Letter”. The crowd’s response was immediate, shouts and movement followed their favorite songs in excitement. These final songs felt more personal, almost like an encore for fans who had been riding with Enjoy since the beginning. It was the kind of surprise that turned a great set into a memorable one.
Next up was Puzzle, the solo project from Fletcher Shears. If Enjoy was the raw punk side of The Garden, then Puzzle is its experimental, electronic counterpart. Fletcher’s set brought a unique blend of atmospheric electronic beats and intense, raw energy. He kicked off with “Conductors Ghost”, immediately setting a dark and hypnotic tone. The crowd was pulled into his world as he layered distorted vocals with pulsing beats, creating a captivating atmosphere. As the set progressed, Fletcher shifted the mood with “Loose Cannon”, a track that pushed the boundaries with its gritty, intense energy, keeping everyone on their toes.
The set ended with “I Saw an Angel”, a moment that felt like a reflection of everything that came before it, a haunting yet beautiful conclusion to an electrifying performance. Fletcher left the stage while the rest of the crowd continued to sing the song, carrying the energy forward long after the last note faded. It was a powerful, unforgettable end to his set, leaving the audience both energized and introspective, perfectly encapsulating the unpredictable and captivating nature of Puzzle's sound.
What made the night even more special was the overall vibe, every show from the Vada Vada collective feels like old friends getting back together to share time, memories, and music they have bonded over. It is a rare kind of energy, one that makes you feel like you’re not just watching a performance but actively participating in something personal and collective. The crowd was not just there to listen; they were there to experience the music together, singing, dancing, and creating an atmosphere of pure connection.
The Shears twins have this rare ability to connect with the crowd in a way that makes each show feel personal. Seattle showed up and matched the energy. The crowd didn’t just watch; they participated. There was movement in every corner of the room. People were dancing, filming, and singing along. It was the kind of night that reminded you what live music can be when it’s stripped of pretense and full of intention.
If you caught the CRUSADE ACROSS THE STATES tour at The Crocodile, you already know what a special night it was. If not, make sure you keep an eye on their upcoming shows, they are bringing something truly unique to the stage that you do not want to miss.
