Lowertown’s Beautifully Chaotic & Cathartic Night at Schubas Tavern

Chicago, Illinois - April 15th, 2025

I have never witnessed more crowd surfing at a show like I did for Lowertown’s sold-out Chicago stop the other night. Fans kept climbing onto the stage and jumping right off into the trustful arms of complete strangers, all while being soundtracked by Lowertown’s raw tunes.

This Schubas Tavern show began with a full house of eager fans ready to welcome headliner Lowertown, though they made sure to give openers Starcharm and Sunshy a warm and energetic welcome. As the two openers started the night off strong, fans were visibly impressed by the uniqueness of their music. After Starmcharm and Sunshy finished up, I spoke to a bunch of fans around me, who, first of all, were incredibly sweet. Secondly, they told me how far they traveled to be at the show - some had traveled up to four hours and were planning on doing the same again once the show was over. The dedication to coming together at Schubas to listen to Lowertown perform live was super sweet and highlighted what this band’s music meant to their fans.

The room came alive after the wait for Lowertown was over. The duo, Avsha and Olive, took the stage, and the crowd welcomed them with screams of excitement. In between the slower songs and the more rowdy, it’s-time-to-stage-dive tracks, the energy exchange in that room was incredibly powerful. As previously mentioned, fans were flinging themselves off the stage and being caught by the mosh pit, with some fans even going for multiple stage dives throughout the night. Olive even stage dived at one point, which really tied together the connection between Lowertown and their sold-out crowd. Everyone was just having such a fun and cathartic shared experience. Olive’s movement on stage, Avsha’s vocals, their bass player and drummers' talent, and the crowd singing the lyrics held everything together. Some super sweet fans around me even shuffled a bit so I could get some cool shots.

After the show, I had the opportunity to grab some greenroom portraits with Avsha and Olive. They knew exactly how to pose, and we created some super stylized photos together. The two were super down-to-earth and sweet. We chatted a bit about music production, where they gave me some tips on how to get started with recording my original music.

Between some fan favorite tracks like “Debris,” “Bucktooth,” and “Best Person You Know,” as well as some unreleased jams, the night was a 10/10. If you have the chance to catch Lowertown on the last few stops of their LOWERTOWN SPRING TOUR, or on any upcoming show dates they announce, I highly recommend you go experience what I’ve written about firsthand.
