may 6, 2025 - west hollywood, california

Night two of Royel Otis’ sold-out residency at the Troubadour on May 6th was more than a show—it was a soft launch into a new era (and maybe your next personality). Packed from wall to wall, the West Hollywood crowd was buzzing before a single note hit. Drenched in fog and pulsing lights, the room transformed into an ethereal haze where every synth shimmer and guitar lick felt like a secret whispered between friends. Their signature indie pop warmth was turned up, but there was a new edge—more groove, more bite. Roy’s solos soared while Otis leaned into the crowd, chatting casually like you were just hanging at a house party with your coolest mates. The intimacy was real.

The setlist blended fan favorites with upcoming material—“Kokomo,” “Foam,” and “Wanna Dance” hit like a warm wave, while the debut of “Moody” teased a funkier, more playful sound that had the crowd swaying like we already knew every word. In true Royel Otis fashion, their playful screen visuals added a meta layer to the night. Phrases like (this is a song about a girl), (talking bit), and (dance with the people next to you) flashed behind them, turning moments into mantras. Covers of “Murder on the Dancefloor” and “Linger” sent the crowd into full karaoke mode, rounding out a night that felt both meticulously planned and beautifully unhinged. With their newly announced North America tour kicking off August 5, this wasn’t just a warm-up—it was a warning.

As their Instagram teased: “we did in fact, sing, dance and have fun.” And if this was a taste of what’s coming later this year? We’re hungry for more.
