A Folk Night That Felt Like Home: Hudson Freeman in Kansas City

Kansas City, Missouri — March 11, 2026

At Encore at Uptown Theater in Kansas City, folk artist Hudson Freeman delivered an intimate show on March 11th. Backed by a tight touring band, Freeman moved comfortably between acoustic and electric arrangements; the set was dynamic but remained remarkably intimate throughout the night. His songwriting carries a reflective, personal quality, and that intimacy translates well in the smaller theater setting. The venue’s simple lighting and minimal stage setup allowed the focus to remain on Freeman’s voice, his songwriting, and the chemistry he shared with his band.

Freeman’s recent rise after his song “If You Know Me” took off on social media has brought new attention to his music, yet the entire night felt comfortable and genuine. The audience was extremely engaged; there were almost no phones in the crowd, and everyone was moving along to the music. The shiny finish of Freeman’s acoustic guitar cast a reflective light show across the length of the venue wall, and it seemed to be dancing with the crowd as well. Freeman showed that his talent doesn’t need much decoration.

It felt like catching an artist at the perfect moment—just as his music is reaching a wider audience, but before the venues get much bigger. If his Kansas City performance was any indication, his growing momentum is well deserved, and he’s a rising artist worth keeping an eye on.
