Moody Joody Introduces Plain Jane To New York’s Nightclub 101

Nashville's freshest pop-trio Moody Joody took over the East Village’s Nightclub 101 for their first headlining show. With support from singer-songwriter Julsey, the sold-out show was a celebration of their biggest year yet and built buzzing anticipation for their upcoming debut album Plain Jane set to be released on October 30th. The Nashville trio, made up of Kaitie Forbes, Kayla Hall, and Andrew Pacheco were joined by drummer Brodie Glaza for an evening of deep cuts and new bops. The show marked the group’s return to the stage after a series of opening sets on The Maine’s I Love You, But I Chose The Maine tour.
The world of Plain Jane is a culmination of the group's various suburban roots fused to high energy pop. Sonically, the songs are reminiscent of the early sounds of Bleachers with autotuned vocal moments and synth-centered sounds, and songwriting that mirrors early 2000s Aly and AJ with dueling lyric delivery. The live synergy between the group members creates a playful and dancey mood for those who scored tickets to the sold-out show.
The intimate venue and bar was the perfect backdrop for “OOPS!” which served as the opening song of the set. Katie and Kayla recreated the opening choreography from their music video into the live performance, setting the tone for the set filled with little moments of synchronistic movement and high energy. Day one fans sang along to older songs “Dream Girl,” “Velvet Connection,” and “El Camino High” while newer singles like “Suburbia” and unreleased “Heart Shaped Bed” were met with a chorus of cheers.
Hearing “Loretta’s Last Call” blocks away from the Williamsburg Bridge where the music video was shot was a full circle moment, making New York City as the location for their first headlining show feel all the more special. After a packed set, the band performed a false closer with “Little Blue House” with blue and pink landline phones as props, also reminiscent of the song’s music video. The true end of the set was not a live performance, but a dance party set to the unreleased “Fantasy Land.” The group joined the audience on the floor for a sing-along under the large disco ball at the center of the space.
The trio solidifies their place as a stand out indie act to watch out for ahead of their autumn release. The perfect soundtrack for a night out with your best friends at your hometown bar, Plain Jane is sure to kick off a colorful new chapter for Moody Joody, filled with more live celebrations and growth.
