Sadie Jean Proves to be a Shining Star on the Rise at her Sold-Out Teragram Show
los angeles, Ca - may 24, 2024
Wrapped around a sold-out Teragram Ballroom on Friday evening were fans eagerly awaiting, Sadie Jean. Having just completed her first headlining run the Simple Like 17 Tour, it should be noted that she is without a doubt a star on the rise.
After releasing her debut EP Simple Like 17 last year and a short film to accompany it, Sadie Jean quickly jumped into her star power and began touring. She joined Rod Wave on his arena tour where she co-sang her wildly famous WYD NOW? with him.
This year Sadie ended her month-long headline tour in California. When I arrived at her Teragram show it was not surprising to see a devoted crowd wrapped around the venue that looked like she’d been touring for years. During soundcheck she was given handmade albums, drawings, and cards full of sincerity and love, these heartfelt gestures are common among Sadie’s fanbase who feel a kinship and admiration for the talented young artist. Seeing the dedicated fanbase she’s creating is wholesome to say the very least.
Having been writing songs since she was a child, Sadie has a genuine writing talent that’s authentically interwoven with her vulnerability, it makes one feel as though she’s peered inside our most private journals and feelings to create from an intimate well that we all share. In a world where it seems hard to tell what is real vulnerability from some kind of facade, with Sadie Jean there is no question, that she is true through and through. Her heart and intentions of goodness are so pure that it seems only evident her fanbase is based in the same world of sweetness.
Opening for Sadie Jean was Sabrina Sterling, another young artist with refreshing talent who seemed perfectly suited to be opening the night. Sterling delivered an intimate set with beautiful grace that entranced the crowd. She admitted to being a bit nervous as she’s newer to performing live, the sweet honesty paired with pure talent, only made the room love her more.
When Sadie entered the stage, we saw lamps flickering and a clock ticking down, paying homage to her EP short film. It’s incredible to see a young artist with an already distinct awareness of their creative world for us to get lost in and you could see the thought and care that was put into her stage design intertwining it all to give her audience a real treat. She greeted the audience and then proceeded to sing all her hits including Lights On, Just Because, Good to Know, and more, as well as a few of her incredible newer releases like Shutup About It.
What also stood out was how she spoke to everyone in between songs. Some artists might find it hard to connect with an audience during the intimate, in-between moments but for Sadie, it seems to come naturally. She converses organically with others about the meanings behind her songs, in such an honest way that you feel she’s been your best friend for years. She asks questions and offers special moments to her audience, which only reinforces the notion that she’s the type of person meant to be doing this.
At one point she told us the story behind writing Locksmith and encouraged the audience to “a dare”. She said if there’s someone you aren’t with anymore but still think about and wonder if 10 years from now something could happen again, “I dare you to reach out to them” (She made sure to add that they needed to have been incredibly good to you.)
Immediately someone in the audience took the dare and decided to call their ex on the phone. Sadie put the mic up to the call so we were all given an intimate listen at a beautiful moment between humans. This was yet another piece of her set that made the night truly unforgettable and was sparked by Sadie’s nostalgic heart, knowledge beyond her years about the passage of time, and encouragement to her fans that it’s never too late to reach out to someone you still love.
She’s an incredible performer but at the core she’s a natural, a good person, and an active listener to her fanbase, giving time and attention to caring aspects some overlook making it impossible not to love her. Mid show she brought out friend and fellow musician Jake Minch to cover Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb” with her. The two gave such a gorgeous and compelling performance together, and you could see the genuine friendship between them, which only made it all that more special. Sadie closed down the night with WYD Now and an incredible guitar solo from her guitarist Tyler McCarthy. The night was full of magic and left us eager to witness many more performances by Sadie Jean.
