This Is Lorelei Puts on an Opening Set Worth Showing Up Early For

Sunday night, Bleachers brought the Bleachers Forever Tour to Milwaukee, filling the city's newest music venue, Landmark Credit Union Live, with excited attendees. Chatter from the audience made it clear that the venue is already on its way to becoming a staple of Milwaukee's live music scene. With a spacious GA pit, an overhanging balcony, and a vinyl lounge to chill at before the show, Landmark Credit Union Live is the place to be.
Opening the night was This Is Lorelei, the solo project of Nate Amos. You might know Amos from his work in the indie duo Water From Your Eyes, or from the growing list of artists who've covered his songs, including MJ Lenderman, Waxahatchee, and Cameron Winter. It's a testament to the quiet but undeniable impact he's had on indie and alt-country songwriting; there’s a good chance he’s your favorite songwriter’s favorite songwriter.
With the release of The Singer in My Band, This Is Lorelei feels feels like a very exciting project in indie rock right now and is definitely one to keep your eye on. Drawing from folk and alt-country influences, the album is full of songs that feel playful and catchy while still carrying real emotional weight.
The stage setup was simple but perfect for the set. A black sheet draped across the back of the stage, washed in deep red lights hanging above the band, allowing the songs to do the talking. Between Amos' tattooed knuckles wrapped around a bright red guitar and the warm glow filling the room, the whole set felt effortlessly cool.
Opening with “A Song That Sings About You”. The song is a declaration to someone you just can't get out of your head. Where every city, tree, bird, and star becomes a reminder of them. Singing “It’s a galaxy that sings to me about you. The stars all sing about you”.
Throughout the set, Amos leaned heavily into The Singer in My Band giving performances of “Billy Came Back”, “Hey Sara Is It Gonna To Rain Forever”, and “The Kid With The Crown” to name a few.
Amos also mixed in favorites from earlier releases, giving both longtime fans and first-time listeners plenty to hold onto. Ending the set with “Im All Fucked Up” and “Dancing in the Club”, both explore themes of self-sabotage and regret through beautiful lyricism, leaving the crowd with one last reminder of what makes his songwriting so memorable.
There's something special about opening a tour and playing to a room full of potential new fans. Throughout the set, you could hear people asking, “What's this band called?” and talking with friends about how good the songs were. By the end of the night, it felt like This Is Lorelei had won over a new crowd.
