Pittsburgh, PA Native Montell Fish, releases his EP, Her Love Still Haunts Me Like A Ghost

Fish stepped into the music scene with Christian records, produced in his own bedroom. The debut album, “JAMIE” was a reinvention of his sound that illustrated the weak moments and downfall of a relationship. He gained a massive attraction following the release of “Fall In Love With You”, creating a fanbase of over nine million monthly listeners on Spotify, and the single itself with over 150 million streams.

Following the debut album, besides receiving reviews from major outlets such as Billboard and The New York Times, Fish also landed himself a spot on The Tonight Show! With Jimmy Fallon, his debut late-night performance.

Now Fish is back with his latest EP, “Her Love Still Haunts Me Like A Ghost”.

The seven track EP opens the next chapter of his forbidden lover story, opening with “Every Night”. ‘Every Night” channels the energy of everything Fish describes as ‘wrong’, with lyrics “The drugs, the sex, the lights, I think I want it all like every night”. This track starts the EP with an exciting yet eluding tone.

Shining track of this EP, “Hotel”, is also the debut single of this record. This ‘post breakup ballad’ shows a darker side of Fish, with deep bass and heavy guitar. The song uproots his Gospel background and shifts toward a moody topic.

Following “Hotel”, Fish advances to “Exscape”, describing the feeling of not being able to get away from someone you know is wrong for you. Not being able to ‘escape [their] grasp’, and feeling as though a relationship is a never ending cycle, is a feeling that Fish makes listeners feel all too familiar with on this song.

On “Pretend Lovers” Fish asks the question, “Do you really want to be my friend, or do you want to be my lover?” and anyone who is in an in-between relationship knows this feeling. FIsh completely avoids the awkward tension of not knowing how to define a relationship, and gets straight to the point

“Altitude” is intimate. Layered with heavy breathing backtracking, Fish sings as if he is speaking to the listener themselves. Asking if he needs to “slow down”, or take things to a “new altitude”, Fish leaves a lot to the imagination on this track.

Contrasting to his past vulnerability in songs such as, “Destroy Myself Just For You”, Fish gives a cold shoulder on track 5, “Blame”. He is intentional with his words, saying “I don’t even love you girl, only want you for your touch,”. He gives a one sided perspective of being the heartbreaker in a complicated relationship.

Closing the EP with “Bathroom”, track 6 is similarly layered with deep breaths, with an interlude dedicated to them. Fish flips the perspective on this track, detailing what is being said to him. The track is the perfect fit to end the EP, with all aspects of Fish’s musicality being shown.

“Her Love Still Haunts Me Like A Ghost” advances Fish’s discography by telling the intricate and personal details of a relationship, and the lack thereof. It tells the narrative from all sorts of perspectives, and tells it from a dark lens. The production quality is incredibly cohesive and compatible with Fish's previous releases.

Following the release, Fish will be venturing out on an 11 date North American Tour. Stream “Her Love Still Haunts Me Like A Ghost”, out now.
