'Everything I'm Missing' by The Thing With Feathers Out Now
By: Madison Avery
If there’s one thing The Thing With Feathers know how to do it’s write an incredibly catchy song. The Nashville based indie-rock band made up of David Welcsh (vocals, guitar), Chris Roussell (drummer), and Alex Hendricks (lead guitar), had a breakthrough in 2019 with their single ‘Figure It Out’ and it’s only been up from there for the band. Starting in August 2022, they’ve released a new song from their new EP every few months, gradually telling the story of a toxic relationship. Going through all the typical feelings that follow a break up in each song: reminiscing, letting go, and figuring out who you are.
‘Everything I’m Missing’ is the fourth single off the upcoming EP ‘Waste My Revenge’ and describes the point in a breakup after processing everything and the internal conflict of figuring out who they are. The last single titled ‘These Drugs’ which talks about a one sided relationship that is too far gone, the new song shows progression in which Welcsh essentially sings about “who am i? What’s next?”. Throughout the song it walks you through the spiral of an obstacle and coming out as a more mature version of yourself.
‘Everything I’m Missing’ feels as if it was pulled straight from a coming of age movie with melancholy lyrics from the chorus like “stuck in this daydream and it keeps going on and on I’ve heard I’m wrong/well why can’t you change me, you’re clearly complaining guess everybody’s got me wrong”. The instrumental paints a nostalgic vibe working with the emotion behind Welcsh's voice. It makes you want to blast the song through your headphones and stare out a rainy car window pondering life. With a melodic guitar riff and dramatic chorus you’ll find yourself humming the song after listening to it just once.
The single is now available on streaming platforms so be sure to add it to your library. Stay tuned for the official release of the EP coming soon as well as the music video for ‘Everything I’m Missing’. The band has hinted at a tour for the EP this year so be on the lookout for your chance to see The Thing With Feathers!
