Wasia Project has released their second single, “Bleeding Gold,” from their upcoming debut album, Nocturne, which will be released on September 18th.

After opening for Laufey on her 2024 tour and an extended festival run in 2025, the duo, comprised of siblings Will Gao and Olivia Hardy, is riding their success straight into their debut album.

“Bleeding Gold” is upbeat and nostalgic, sounding like it was ripped right out of a teenage coming-of-age movie. It blends dreamy vocals from Hardy as she floats through the song effortlessly, almost as if she’s a ghost reminiscing on her past and replaying all the moments that led to this one.

Combined with Gao’s expert synth arrangement, the song’s dreamlike stance is elevated to new levels of nostalgia and a deep urgency to return to the past, before getting tangled up in life’s inherent messiness.

“‘Bleeding Gold’ is a song about nostalgia, returning to your roots, and understanding that though you can’t go back to your younger self,” shares the duo. “Your past will always be part of you and travel with you as you go forth.”

It’s this recognition that your past isn’t something to be changed, but something to be learned from –– an impressive take on nostalgia that isn’t seen too often. In a world of nostalgia bait and an inane desire to copy the forms of the past, Wasia Project uses their classical music training to create something both distinct and unique, yet familiar and inviting.

The song is a departure from the first single from Nocturne, “2515,” which is reminiscent of Allie X’s mix of dark, gothic synths and haunting vocals in “Girl With No Face.”

Nocturne is sure to be a stunning debut album from Wasia Project, judging from the two singles released so far.

“Our debut album, Nocturne, is a collection of songs that take us on a journey through the night,” said the duo. “A space and time where feelings and emotions play in a world of extremes. From the electric connection of a nightclub to the isolation of a sleepless night, we present a piece of work that serves as a sanctuary for those moments in our lives, hoping to bridge the borders between ourselves and each other.”
