Jordan Rakei at Universal Music Group Ahead of His Upcoming Tour

JUNE 18TH- Jordan Rakei held a special performance in the lobby of Universal Music Group ahead of his upcoming world tour. Rakei’s latest album, The Loop, was released May 10th.

The showcase began as his string quartet and backing vocalists came on the stage. Rakei followed a moment later and sat down at the piano, which was decorated sparsely with flowers. His name in bold letters stood proudly on the back wall behind him.

The Grammy-nominated mulit-instrumentalist began by playing “Learning,” the ninth track off the thirteen song album. “It’s so good to be back in New York. I’ll be back in November with the full band,” Rakei announced as the first song ended, and he began by introducing the story behind the next. “This next track is called “Flowers,” he said. “Basically, I had a child. My album’s about being a parent, and when you become a parent, I think some parents here might agree, you lose a lot of ego you put up against the world.”

Rakei played five songs off The Loop, including the previously mentioned “Learning,” “Flowers,” “Royal,” “Hopes and Dreams,” and “Friend or Foe.” Before the last song, Rakei said “It’s been a pleasure to perform for you today. Thanks to those of you who have come. For those of you who have come as plus ones, you may remember me as that awkward New Zealander. Sorry that was a joke, a joke that flopped.”
