Rising bedroom pop artist Dora Jar took to Instagram on Tuesday to announce her debut album, No Way To Relax When You Are On Fire, dropping Sept. 13.

The California-based singer-songwriter, born Dora Jarkowski, began teasing the announcement on Instagram last week, where in the caption of a post promoting her latest single, ‘Timelapse’, she revealed the acronym of the album’s title. Jarkowski continued to share cryptic posts on her Stories alluding to the record until Tuesday, when she wrote “I am going to show you something in 5 min” in front of a heavily blurred version of the album cover.

The announcement came after the release of singles ‘Timelapse’, ‘She Loves Me’, and ‘Puppet’, which have not been confirmed as album tracks but share similar cover art to that of No Way To Relax When You Are On Fire. The singles, which have an almost spacey feel to them, suggest the album will make use of Jarkowski’s classic synth sound mixed with a sense of sonic experimentation reminiscent of Fiona Apple — the end of ‘She Loves Me’ especially evokes this.

Jarkowski said the songwriting process for No Way To Relax When You Are On Fire began two years ago when she was an opener for Billie Eilish on her 2022 “Happier Than Ever” tour and faced imposter syndrome. In an attempt to “make sense of what felt like a lucky break,” Jarkowski said making the album forced her to confront her “deepest fears.” The result is seemingly a work of thematic contradictions with a sort of gothic imagery: “it is my childhood fear of the devil, it is my adult eye roll to my fear,” Jarkowski wrote.

In addition to opening for Billie Eilish, Jarkowski also toured with The Neighborhood in 2021 and The 1975 in 2023. Most recently, she co-starred in her friend Remi Wolf’s music video for “Motorcycle.”
