Indie sweetheart Samia announced her new album, Bloodless, on Tuesday via Instagram, accompanying the release of lead single “Bovine Excision.”

Set to release April 25, Bloodless is the singer-songwriter’s third studio album and follows her debut record, The Baby, and sophomore album Honey. Known for her brutally honest lyricism and buttery-smooth soprano voice, Samia is well-loved in the indie scene.

According to her Instagram post announcing the album, all pre-sale proceeds will go to the Anti-Recidivism Coalition, a California-based organization working for fair wages for incarcerated firefighters battling Los Angeles’s wildfires.

Bloodless’s announcement came with the release of “Bovine Excision,” a tempestuous track that slowly climbs from being a confessional acoustic to a wall of sound as Samia repeatedly pleads “Drain, drain bloodless.” Referring to the song’s cattle-killing title, she said in a statement that she “was drawn to the phenomenon of bloodless cattle mutilation as a metaphor for self-extraction.”

Between the morbid lead single, ghostly album art and gothic font used in branding, Bloodless seems to be a turn towards a more inherently dark theme for the 28-year-old artist.

Produced by Caleb Wright and Jake Lupin, Bloodless was recorded between Minneapolis and North Carolina, with Christian Lee Hutson and Raffaela also having songwriting credits on the 13-track record. Bloodless will be released April 25 via Grand Jury Music and you can presave the album here.
