Fontaines D.C. @ Climate Pledge Arena

Seattle, washington - september 22, 2023

If you need a pick-me-up, look no further than Fontaines D.C. Opening on tour for Arctic Monkeys, Fontaines D.C. had the stadium ground shaking in Seattle.

On September 22, 2023, the Climate Pledge Arena was witness to the electrifying and energetic performance of Fontaines D.C. as they hyped the crowd up for the headliner. The five members came a long way from home to perform their post-punk hits for an arena of thousands.

They began their 40-minute set with the song “A Lucid Dream” from their earlier 2020 album A Hero’s Death. “A Lucid Dream” it was to see Fontaines D.C. take the stage at Climate Pledge Arena. From their moody lighting to stage stomping, there was never a dull moment. Grian Chatten’s (vocals) passionate and wild movements on stage along with the fast tempo of the track, garnered the audience’s attention as they continued to trickle into the arena.

Chatten, Carlos O’Connell (guitar), Conor Deegan III (bass), Conor Curley (guitar), and Tom Coll (drums) moved in sync with each other as they powered through their setlist. With older songs from “Dogrel” to some newer music off their latest album Skinty Fia, Fontaines D.C. demonstrated their growth as a band.

Through the years, as their music has progressed so have they. Their songs evolve from taking an introspective look into their rise to fame to how to break out of the mold and what is expected of them.

Even those in the crowd who had never listened to their music were stomping around and supporting their set. From the very start to the end of their performance, they never slowed down. By the end of their set, they came out swinging, still riding on a high of playing for a packed arena in Seattle.

The stage production was simple with bright red lights casting a glow over the and that would occasionally burst into different colors as the music sped up. It matched their frantic movements and quick beat. The simple red curtain backdrop drew no attention away from the message. The message was simple: follow the music.

Near the end of their set, they slowed down a bit with their second single from their most recent album, “I Love You.” A love letter to Ireland from the perspective of one who is facing great success yet is away from home was a fitting choice to close out their set. Every emotion could be felt as Gatten pulled the crowd in with the swirling anger and disappointment he portrayed as he sang the lyrics.

It was an incredible night marked by Fontaines D.C.’s intense and exciting performance. They surpassed all expectations and successfully set the stage for their headliners. Their raw performance stirred emotions within the crowd and made for an incredible night. Fontaines D.C. certainly gave an unforgettable performance and rocked the stage in Seattle’s beloved Climate Pledge Arena.
