BETWEEN FRIENDS gave a masterclass on dream-pop at Toronto show

It would be easier to find a needle in a haystack than it would be trying to find someone standing still at BETWEEN FRIENDS’s show in Toronto. The sibling alt-pop duo made a stop at The Opera House on their current tour I Love My Girl, She’s My Boy, promoting their recent album release with the same name.

The siblings, Brandon and Savannah Hudson, made their first national appearance when they were quarter finalists in America’s Got Talent back in 2013, and later formed BETWEEN FRIENDS in 2017, releasing their first EP just one year later; we just need some time together, which included their breakout songaffection”.

Starting the show off with “Stalker” from their newest album, the fast paced drum beat instantly got the crowd in the mood to jump around for the next few hours. The setlist included the perfect mix of their newest singles, like “Bruise” and “Self Destruct,” along with fan favorites from every album and EP, such as “iloveyou” and “orange juice,” appealing to newly gained fans as well as loyal followers.

The stage had a simple design, with just one large piece of fabric with the words I LOVE MY GIRL SHE’S MY BOY spray painted in red, and a small old TV with a few channels on a loop, adding onto the bedroom pop and DIY energy their music evokes. The leftover room on stage was put to good use, with Savannah dancing around the entire space, occasionally stepping on the speakers that stuck out into the crowd with Brandon following along.

Being at the show felt like being at a dance party with your best friends; everybody was jumping and singing along to their favorite songs that they’ve been waiting to hear live. Fans packed the floor of the venue and knew every word to every song, singing the choruses loud enough to almost drown out the voices coming from on stage; it’s clear that Toronto can’t wait for Between Friends to make their next return to the city, and the sibling duo seems to feel the exact same way about the Canadian city.
