Sun Room in San Diego

SUN ROOM

“We threw a lot of house shows in San Diego and our neighbors called the cops on us literally last weekend and we wrote a song about it.”

A testament to the impact of surf culture on the San Diego music scene, Southern California’s Sun Room illuminated the Soma stage on Friday, February 3rd. While the four piece rock band is known for their viral local house performances, they have racked up an incredible amount of time playing on the big stage, having opened up for popular acts like Louis Tomlinson and Inhaler in 2022.

Their experience uplifting a crowd was evident in San Diego as the young group brought the unmatched energy of an intimate performance to a crowd of 2,000. From start to finish, the show felt like a celebration of music and community - the way concerts should be.

Sun Room commanded the stage in early Beatles-inspired attire, matching the 1960’s rock influence heard across the band’s entire discography and especially prominent in their recent single, “Cadillac”. Immediately, fans began surfing through the crowd and maintained the momentum for the entire show.

Lead singer Luke Asgian’s California vocal cadence brought the group’s free-spirited lyrics to life as he sung about the humble pleasures of surfing, sunbathing on summer vacation, and crushing on someone new. The talented, cohesive dynamic between Luke, Ashton, Max, and Gibby showcased as they played fan favorites like “Fun” and “I Want You” - impressive given that they only officially formed back in 2020.

“We threw a lot of house shows in San Diego and our neighbors called the cops on us literally last weekend and we wrote a song about it,” said Luke as the group began playing their latest, drum-heavy single “Kaden’s Van”.

Sun Room’s simple lyrics and contagiously, energetic sound created an environment that allowed young people to leave their problems at the door and have a care-free night, celebrating the often overlooked moments of life.

The band’s upcoming EP Outta Their Minds is set for release on March 3. That same month, they will be joining UK-group Inhaler once more on their North American tour, kicking off in Washington DC.
