Styx Win the Crowd Over at The Ryman Twice
Nashville - June 18, 2023
Styx stopped in Nashville to play two packed shows at the iconic Ryman.
Edwin McCain kicked off the night, breaking some of the anticipation within the room. This particular show took place on fathers day, Edwin made it a point to speak on that and about being a father. Even sharing a few funny father, daughter moments that he has experienced. This moment allowed for a deeper connection to be made with the crowd, you could feel the shift in energy in the room as everyone became more relaxed and ready for the night. Performing a few of his hits such as, “I’ll be” and “I could not ask for more”, had everyone in the room singing and swaying along.
Styx captivated the audience the second they took the stage. Both the crowd and the band fed off each other's energy, never letting up the entire night. A few of the guitarists threw multiple picks to the fans throughout the show and even tried throwing them to specific fans. Interactions such as these allow fans to create memorable connections with artists they admire, but it also creates a more accepting environment. Styx are fantastic at creating that atmosphere for their fans, throughout the night you could see everyone singing and dancing along with each song that they played. You could tell the band was just as happy to be there as the fans were.
There were many moments throughout the night that I enjoyed, one of those moments being the band member introductions. Most bands take a moment during the show to introduce each member but I enjoyed the backstories that were told with each introduction, you could really feel the admiration and appreciation they have for each other.
There are plenty of dates remaining on their tour, I would highly recommend catching one of their shows if you’re able to!
