boygenius lights up Kettlehouse Amphitheater

Bonner, MT- August 1, 2023

On their 2023 North American tour, boygenius graced thousands of fans at Kettlehouse Amphitheater in Bonner, Montana, to play notable and beloved songs from their debut studio album, the record, as well as their famous self-titled EP, boygenius. The venue was surrounded by mountains and filled with eager fans to hear live performances of their favorite songs.

“The Boys Are Back In Town” filled the amphitheater as everyone waited in anticipation for the prodigious Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus to arrive on stage. As soon as the song ended, the audience’s attention was turned toward the center screen to watch the band harmoniously sing “Without You Without Them” against the calm, Montana, sun-setting sky. All at once, the band charged on stage with “$20”, which started the show on a high note with plenty of energy.

Everyone in the crowd seemed to be connecting with the band as they sang along to their painfully relatable but beautifully honest lyrics. Bridgers asked the audience to put their phones away and walked out into the crowd as she sang “Letter To An Old Poet,” making the experience feel even more personal. Baker, Bridgers, and Dacus each lead one solo song from their discography matched with backup harmonies, vocals, and instruments by their bandmates, which was a highlight during the show amongst the crowd.

This show stood out among others due to the strong relationships the band have with each other. While each of them are strong solo artists, seeing them perform together is a downright honoring experience. Witnessing how each member sonically participates in their bandmates’ stories, experiences, and ideas draws people into their music in a beautiful way. Overall, attending a boygenius show is like experiencing an intimate, energetic, all-embracing emotional night that leaves fans with a remarkable yet personal experience.
