Friday Pilots Club have taken off with Circa Waves on a North American Spring tour, sharing the stage to the excitement of fans across the country. In Toronto’s iconic (and sweaty) Velvet Underground, the club is packed almost as soon as the doors open, buzzing with anticipation for the co-headlining tour.

Made up of frontman Caleb Hiltunen, bassist Drew Polovick, guitarists Sean Burke and James Kourafas, and drummer Eric Doar, the 5-piece met while studying at Chicago’s Columbia College and have been playing music together since. Touring on and off since the release of their first full length album, Nowhere, in early 2024, Friday Pilots Club dominates the stage with the ease of seasoned pros.

As soon as the band steps out on stage, the crowd pushes forward, eager to get closer to the music that they’ve come to love. Clearly having just as much fun as the audience, the members of Friday Pilots Club dance and jump across the stage, taking turns singing into each other's mics and sharing laughs with each other in between songs.

The setlist is dominated by songs off of Nowhere, and you can feel the energy in the room surge with tracks like “Spectator” and “Outta My Body”, as the crowd dances and sings along to every word. Despite only having one full length album out, the dedication and admiration of their fans is obvious, as older songs are balanced through the setlist, and tracks like “Pushing Daisies (Oh My My)” are met with equal excitement from the crowd.

The band slows down for “Would You Mind”, and the audience hushes in awe as Hiltunen takes the opportunity to show off his vocal skills. As the set continues, Friday Pilots Club demonstrates the musical range of their discography, not shying away from testing different genres and sounds with songs like “Trading Punches”, “Life Support” and “End of It”.

One thing about Friday Pilots Club is clear, they are just getting started. With the casual confidence of a group who has been touring for years, the band is uncompromising on stage, driving the energy in the room throughout the show.
