Suki Waterhouse Takes Toronto On A Trip To ‘Loveland’

On Saturday night, September 19, English model, actress, and singer-songwriter Suki Waterhouse took Toronto on a trip to “Loveland” at the Coca-Cola Coliseum. Fans were brought into Suki’s universe of hazy vintage romance for an entrancing 90-minute set. Earlier in the day, she stopped by Kops Records to meet fans and sign copies of her latest album Loveland, released July 10.
Singer-songwriter Charlotte Lawrence kicked off the night with a fun alt-pop/rock set, playing tracks off her latest release, Somewhere. She switched between playing guitar and swaying on stage with a leopard-print scarf, closing with a cover of The Cranberries’ “Zombie.”
The lights went dark, and Judy Garland’s dreamy voice filled the arena as “Over the Rainbow” played, accompanied by birdsong, transporting the audience to a different world. The stage was adorned with curtains, roses, and a giant, bedazzled anatomical heart, shot with Cupid’s arrows with a keyhole in the center. The stage pulsed with red and pink lights as the heart started beating and a voice message played, saying, “You’ve reached Loveland. If you came here looking for love, stay on the line; if you came here looking for trouble, stay on the line!” Suki gracefully stepped on stage with an arrow in hand and stabbed herself in the heart before triumphantly ripping it out and beaming at the crowd as “Supersad” started playing. The crowd cheered and screamed the line “I look so much better when I don’t care.” Suki danced around the stage like a princess-turned-rockstar, wearing a huge, flowy, sheer open robe, a silk bralette, and shorts that said “play nice… or don’t!”, with tinsel laced throughout her hair. Following with “Tiny Raisin” and “OMG,” Suki’s stage presence is effortlessly cool and glamorous, and the live guitar riffs give her sound an extra edge in a live setting.
Her setlist consisted mostly of songs from Loveland and her previous release, Memoir of a Sparklemuffin, including “Jukebox,” “My Fun,” and fan favourite, “Model, Actress, Whatever.” Throughout her set, Suki was appreciative of everyone who came out to the show that night, and told the audience that this was the biggest headline show she’s played yet, saying, “This is pretty crazy for me tonight. I’ve never played somewhere like this and headlined this kind of room before.” After an outfit change that was reminiscent of the first one, complete with a shorter, sheer pink flowy cardigan, she came back out for the sensual track “When I Get Drunk (I Want You Boy),” followed by her hit “Good Looking,” where she ran across the barricade, singing along with the dedicated fans who queued ahead of the show.
At the end of the night, she knelt on stage across from a laptop and gave a beautiful, heartfelt performance of “Weirdo,” a song about coping with distance from her partner. Her final song of the night was “To Love,” enchanting the audience one last time before saying good night.
The “Loveland” North American Tour continues through October, followed by Australian dates at the end of this year, before Suki joins Sombr’s You Are The Reason Tour in 2027. Get tickets here.
