Lizzy McAlpine will be “Pushing It Down and Praying” in her upcoming single

Lizzy McAlpine exhibited fearlessness through her lyrical mastery in the haunting investigations of what it means to be to love and to grow in her third studio album, Older, back in April this year. Now five months later, McAlpine is ready to continue sharing her poetic ruminations in a brand-new song, “Pushing It Down and Praying” Friday, September 20th. While a few lines from “Pushing It Down and Praying” have been teased through the indie folk sensation’s live streams on social media, the track will be a primarily new experience for fans, adding to the immense excitement of the announcement.

Even more of a mysterious air surrounds the release of “Pushing It Down and Praying,” as McAlpine implies but never officially confirms a collaboration with folk group Tiny Habits on the track. On her announcement post on Instagram, fans can witness her in the studio with the iconic trio of Cinya Khan, Maya Rae, and Judah Mayowa. Whether Tiny Habits will perform a significant feature or mostly provide backing vocals on the track, there’s no doubt that the group will adorn the track with chill-inducing harmonics that strike right through the most tender parts of the heart.

There’s no official word on whether or not “Pushing It Down and Praying” will be a part of a larger project or simply just a single, but Lizzy McAlpine has had no reserves in teasing fans about a deluxe version of Older since its release. Back in June, a video clip of the unreleased “Waiting For Someone” was posted by McAlpine on Instagram with the caption “so are we thinking we want deluxe orrrr what,” sending many fans into an ecstatic flurry within the comment section. McAlpine certainly has some more musical secrets up her sleeves, and fans are definitely pushing and praying for more to come.

McAlpine has had a busy year since the release of her album, performing headline tour dates in North America and Australia the past few months. The “Older: The Making of the Album” documentary was also just released to the public on McAlpine’s YouTube account, showcasing the writing and recording process for the entirety of Older as well a handful of other tracks from The Older Tour. McAlpine will continue touring at the start of October as she heads to Europe; you can check out the remainder of her tour dates here.

Fans can prepare for yet another emotional whirlwind when the latest single from Lizzy Mcalpine, “Pushing It Down and Praying,” releases on September 20th. You can pre-save the track here.
