The 5 Seconds of Summer Show @ Huntington Bank Pavilion
Chicago, Illinois -August 23rd, 2023
Thought it was the hottest day Illinois had seen through out the whole summer, that did not stop fans from lining up 15 hours in advance to see Australian pop rock band 5 Seconds of Summer.
"The 5 Seconds of Summer Show" tour is distinctive in that it is styled after a late-night television program. At precisely 9 o'clock, 5 Second of Summer entered the stage and began playing a mock TV program opener that introduced us to our "hosts" and featured images of each band member. We heard "Bad Omens," "2011," and "Caramel" to open their set.
Each band member could be seen stepping on top of their rack of guitar cabs as they began to take in the sold-out audience in front of them. Despite the fact that 5 Seconds of Summer released their most recent album, 5SOS5, last year, they combed through their back catalog and selected a number of fan favorites from each release.
They used an inflatable die to choose between six songs to perform in the middle of their 28-song repertoire. The dice rolled on "Voodoo Doll" and the crowd erupted in cheers. The band gave one more push before continuing to rule the stage with "She Looks So Perfect," "Teeth," and "Jet Black Heart." After it was over, the overwhelming applause and screaming got fans an encore and 5 Seconds of Summer to return to the stage. Both "Outer Space" and "Youngblood" were used as the show's closing songs.
"The 5 Seconds of Summer Show" tour demonstrates that they can still present a set that pleases both new and devoted fans despite having undergone numerous stylistic changes during their career.
