Coheed and Cambria @ The Riviera Theatre

CHICAGO, September 19th 2023

For a special album play-through performance of their 2007 release No World For Tomorrow, Coheed and Cambria took the stage at the Riviera Theatre on Tuesday night. The setlist included the 2007 album in its entirety, as well as an encore featuring select tracks from their most recent release Vaxis II: A Window of the Waking Mind.

While the setlist was missing some of their hit tracks like "Welcome Home" and "The Suffering," it was clear this was a performance for the die-hard Coheed fans. Right from the get-go, it was clear what you were getting into. Fans chanted the lyrics along with lead vocalist Claudio Sanchez. This wasn't just another Coheed and Cambria show. Fans were donning tattoos of the band’s signature logo, covered head to toe in merchandise, and parents bringing their children; this was a celebration

of legacy. Their energy was palpable, performing the songs from the album as if it came out yesterday, and not 16 years ago. They were on fire, smashing through each song ferociously, with lead singer Claudio Sanchez's buoyant voice howling through the theatre on songs like the eponymous track "No World For Tomorrow", sounding exactly like the album recording.

It was clear that this album is a record that resonated with many in the theatre that night, with some audience members even shedding tears during slower ballads like "Mother Superior". It was a treat to see a discography-defining record played in its entirety, let alone 16 years after it's initial release. Coheed and Cambria delivered a superb performance to a crowd of fans, giving them a dose of nostalgia and a master-class in album play-through performances.
