Abby Powledge Charms While Opening on Tour with Hazlett
Abby Powledge is a young but promising voice in the singer-songwriter vein. Only 20-years-old and currently at school in Nashville, Abby has started her career having already opened for some incredible names, such as Chelsea Cutler, Jeremy Zucker, and Ryman Wooten. Her standout track “the way that i am” has led her to where she is now, and her recent EP release if im honest for once has nurtured that success further. As an opener, she dazzles the crowd with her charming personality and captivating live vocals sounding nearly identical to her studio tracks.
For her first time ever in Philadelphia, Abby begins her set with one of her newer releases off her EP, “generations in the making.” This track highlights that love is possible if your ancestors before you have been loved. “That I'm a reincarnate of my mother's beauty / And every other woman come before me / If my parents and grandparents were adored / Then somebody has loved my face before.” A sweet and hopeful introduction, she then shifts to a song full of yearning, “to be held".” This song is full of conceptually genius ways of displaying when you go so long without love you start to fuel that desire with everyday interactions.
Her set then shifts from one of her own songs “real winter” into a cover of “Angela” by The Lumineers. The beautiful rendition is a perfect addition to her set and is elevated by her tone. Abby resolves her set with three more of her own songs, all tear jerking and beautiful in their own right. Her standout song “forgive” got the attention of the crowd and tons of compliments from new listeners being introduced to her for the first time that night. She finishes with fan favorite “the way that i am” and the crowd sings along with her, ending her set with a sweet reminder that “Someone will love me / The way that I am.” Abby’s finishing up this tour with Hazlett with just a few more stops, so catch her opening set if you can and be sure to check out all of Abby’s music on any platform you find music.
