Los Bitchos Trip Out on Tequila and Cumbia in Toronto
july 15, 2025 - toronto, canada
In the midst of the latest Toronto heatwave, Los Bitchos took over The Great Hall Tuesday evening for a late summer night of dancing and jamming as fans packed into the venue. Stemming from the underground scene in London, England, Los Bitchos is a pan-continental band, with members coming together from a wide variety of backgrounds to create their unique sound. Playing predominantly instrumental tracks, they draw inspiration from 1970s and 1980s cumbia, a traditionally Colombian folk music.
Despite being based in London, the band consists of Australian born Serra Petale on guitar, Uruguayan Agustina Ruiz on keytar and synthesisers, Swedish Josefine Jonsson on bass guitar, and London native Nic Crawshaw on drums and percussion.
Self-described as “tripping out on tequila and cumbia”, a Los Bitchos concert feels more like hanging out and jamming with friends. The crowd happily dances through the setlist, laughing along with the band on stage as they take turns on different solos, whether it's guitar, the drums, or the bongos.
Still hot from last summer’s release of their latest record, Talkie Talkie, the music is described by the band as “sparkling and eclectic”. With its namesake from a fictional club, Talkie Talkie is “a late night paradise brimming with freedom and possibility; a place where partygoers can escape reality in the dance or daydream along to invigorating soundscapes.”
Los Bitchos have created their own universe through their music, which they are more than happy to share with their fans. Catch Los Bitchos through the rest of the summer as they continue to play a collection of shows and festivals.
